Quiet Riot/ Bang Tango/ Beautiful Creatures/Angry Salad |
| HE'S ONE OF THE YOUNGEST GUYS PLAYING IN THE L.A. SCENE, AND HE'S ALREADY MADE A NAME FOR HIMSELF IN BEAUTIFUL CREATURES AND BANG TANGO. BUT NOW HE'S RIPPING IT UP ON TOUR WITH KEVIN DeBROW AND HIS BOYS IN QUIET RIOT. WE GOT HOLD OF ALEX MID TOUR TO CHECK ON HIM AND THE RIOT BOYS. |
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________
July 2007
HEY ALEX – HOW ARE YOU AND WHATS IN THE WORKS FOR YOU AT THE
MOMENT?
Well, right now I preparing for another great summer of touring with QUIET RIOT. As of today we have a pretty good amount of dates on the books for 2007---- you can see them all at www.FRANKIE-BANALI.com.

HOWS THE CURRENT REHAB TOUR TREATING YOU GUYS SO FAR?
So far it has been great, we just did the SWEDEN ROCK festival, which was a really cool time, we also just did a show in Mexico that was a blast....
WHAT KIND OF SETLIST ARE YOU GUYS LAYING DOWN? A MIX OF OLD AND NEW? PLAYING STUFF FROM REHAB?
The set is a good mix of old and new, We are currently doing 3 new songs off of Rehab, "FREE", "SOUTH OF HEAVEN" and a really cool bluesy song in 6/8 called "OLD HABITS DIE HARD" that was written by Frankie Banali and legendary singer Glenn Hughes. We also do a |

| lot of tunes off METAL HEALTH, |
DeBrow on tour (Swedenrock 2007)
|
CONDITION CRITICAL and QRIII...as well as a cover of Humble Pie's "Red Light Mama Red Hot".
YOU CAME IN JUST AFTER REHAB, RIGHT?
Well, yes and no...I was not involved in the recording process for REHAB at all, at the time it was early 2006 and my contract w/ QR was up. They had a phenomenal guitar player named Neil Citron come in and do all the tracking, mixing etc, he had also written a lot w/ Frankie....I am defiantly getting an education learning his parts to play live. I did however do a good amount of writing w/ Kevin DuBrow at his house in Las Vegas in early 2005, and 2 of the songs that those writing sessions yielded ended up on Rehab, "FREE" and "STRANGE DAZE". |

|
SO ARE YOU THERE FULL TIME NOW, HOW LONG DO YOU PLAN ON STICKING AROUND?
I plan on sticking around as long as they have me, Kevin, Frankie, Chuck and I get along great and play good together....time will tell......
KEVEN IS NOTOURIOUSLY HARD TO WORK WITH, HOWS HE TREATING YOU SO FAR?
Kevin has treated me like family since day 1, we met while he was doing solo dates to promote "In for the Kill" (a collection of cover tunes that he recorded for SHRAPNEL). After that, we did the "Bad Boys of Metal" tour together, once that tour was over he asked me to join QUIET RIOT for 2005. As far him being" Hard to work with" I cannot speak for anyone he has worked other than myself, and he has been nothing but cool to me. We have become great friends in the 3 plus years we have worked together. I can say this-- Kevin takes what he does very seriously unlike some bands of QR's genre, who go out and play shows for the same reasons business men go out and play golf, to get away from the wife and be able to drink during the day. Kevin still takes every show seriously and never phones it in, and expects the same from the people he plays with.... So if that is what is considered " notoriously hard to work with" than, uh....OK......

Kevin & Alex; getting along just fine. |

I GUESS YOU'VE GOT TO WATCH YOUR MOUTH IF YOU WANT TO STAY IN A JOB! HA HA?
I am simply stating fact.
BEFORE YOU HOOKED UP WITH Q.R., YOU AND JOE LESTE WERE CHURNING OUT TUNES IN BOTH BEAUTIFUL CREATURES AND BANG TANGO?
Joe LeSte was one of the first people I met in the "L.A. Scene" once I had finished up the AIMEE ALLEN tour. When he asked me to join BEAUTIFUL CREATURES it was kind of a lot to take on, I was not only replacing a great lead guitarist who I was already a fan of, but also one of the principle songwriters in the band --- DJ ASHBA. Within days of joining the band I was in the studio writing and recording what would become BC's sophomore release "DEUCE".
READY TO GO (BANG TANGO) WAS A GREAT ALBUM?
Thanks, we had a lot of fun making |
 |
| it. |
Dizzy Reed (on guitar!) and
Alex jam it out. |
Dizzy Reed from GUNS N ROSES played Hammond and Piano on it and Anthony Focx did a great job mixing.
DEUCE (B.C) WAS EVEN BETTER?
|
 |
Thanks again, we kind of picked the best of the 30 plus tunes andput them on DEUCE simplybecause we knew it would get to a lot more people as B.C was fresh off OZZFEST and already had JAPANESE, EUROPEAN and US labels wanting to put it out.
SO WHAT HAPPENED WITH BEAUTIFUL CREATURES? THINGS SEEMED TO BE TAKING OFF, THEN…?
It wasn't that anything happened, it more that NOTHING happened! --- My goal has always been to play music for a living, and BC (as "cool" as they were considered in Hollywood), really didn't mean all that much in other parts of the world, despite all the press we got, it made it hard to make it a full-time thing for me. So, when the QR offer came up, I took it.....and I am glad that I did. |

YOU WERE ALSO IN THE BAND ANGRY SALAD?
When I finished High School, I moved to Boston to go to Berklee on a partial scholarship that Fender had given me, but after 3 weeks of spending my Friday nights sitting in a dorm room with 4 dudes talking about Flanger pedals I realized that it wasn't for me, so I got a job at E.U. Wurlitzer's on Mass. Ave selling guitars and eventually answered on add that turned out to be ANGRY SALAD. We did over 250 shows in 1997 and by the end of '98 signed a deal w/ ATLANTIC.
YOU GUYS HAD A FEW RADIO HITS,WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THAT BAND?
Being part of the WEA family, when AOL merged w/TIME-WARNER we were dropped. Despite the fact that record was starting to sell and we already had most of the 2nd one in the can. We were bought out of our 2nd record and let go.

SO YOU'RE YOUNGER THAN MOST IN THE SCENE, HOW IS IT PLAYING FOR BANDS YOU WERE JAMMING TO GROWING UP?
It is a dream come true, I am very lucky to do what I do, It is sometimes surreal to turn around and see my childhood cassette collection on stage w/ me, tour with bands I used to pay to see and be able to get paid to do what I love. I am very fortunate. It is also very good for me on a musical level. Because of my age, I was not exposed to the same music that most of these guys were, so it is a great learning experience as well.
WHAT ABOUT A NEW ALBUM FROM Q.R?
Time will tell.......
SO DO YOU MANAGE TO FIT MUCH OF A LIFE IN AFTER MUSIC? WHAT ABOUT FAMILY?
No family, I have a girlfriend in Fla. that I see when I can, but right now my main focus is touring and working enough to establish myself enough to be able to someday have a family....
HOBBIES?
I like to fish when I can....sleeping is pretty cool too...
DO YOU FIND IT HARD TO JUGGLE IT ALL?
Not one bit, there are a lot of harder jobs out there that people do every day. I am very Lucky.
