Warrant |
On March 4th, WARRANT announced that the original line-up of the band has reunited. WARRANT, best known for classic MTV hits "Cherry Pie", "Heaven" and rock anthem "The Down Boys" will co-headline the 2008 Rocklahoma festival, marking the reunion of its original lineup including Jani Lane (vocals); Joey Allen (lead guitar); Jerry Dixon (bass); Erik Turner (guitar) and Steven Sweet (drums); for the first time in 14 years.
WARRANT will hit the road with CINDERELLA and LYNCH MOB this summer in July immediately following Rocklahoma. Stay tuned for upcoming tour dates.
Saviours of Rock Correspondent Deb Rao spoke to Warrant guitarist Erik Turner regarding the Warrant re-union, and upcoming tour with Cinderella.

April 2007
Erik, Thank you so much for checking in. Well, in our last interview you said never say never. When I asked about a possible Warrant reunion with Jani Lane. Here we are in 2008. Who was instrumental in making the first phone call?
I made the first phone call, it was my turn. Jani called me in 93 I believe saying he wanted to come back to the band.

Is the band currently in rehearsal? How does it feel to be playing with Jani again?
We have only rehearsed once, but it was very cool and surreal. We will be jamming more often now as the tour dates are coming in.
Is Jaime St. James cool with the current situation and reunion of Warrant?
Jaime is a great guy and understands we have a very rare opportunity to do something special here. We haven't played live together in over 14 years. If we were a bottle of wine it would taste damn good!
I see that Black N'Blue is playing Rocklahoma too. I know Jaime did a great job with his time in Warrant. Actually both Warrant and Black N'Blue on the same bill at Rocklahoma? Do you think there will be some kind of jam taking place there?
You never know on the Jam, its going to be a great day in 80's rock folk lore. (Laughs).
When did Warrant disband? How long has it been since you have performed with Jani LaneL?
Warrant has never dis-banded. It's been a bit of a revolving |

door of musicians, we are like a half way house for musicians who never sold millions of records ;-) 2003 was the last time Jerry and I played in a band with Lane.

What were your initial thoughts when the thought of the reunion was being tossed around? Did you feel that it was the right time and place to bring the original line-up back on the music scene?
My initial thoughts were give Jani a call and see what happens. I'm still seeing what happens as we go along into the summer. It's great having the five of us back together!
Does it feel kind of like déjà-vu all over again? Would you say all the pieces of the puzzle fit back perfectly again and the chemistry remains intact?
It feels right and all the parts are there, we just need to get out and play live!
Down Boys was the first song we played at rehearsal and I got chills hearing WARRANT for the first time in so many fucking years. Wow, this is what we are supposed to sound like.

The new Warrant |

|
It seems even though in the 90's, Warrant has always kept their loyal fan base?
We play live every year, usually at least 50 shows a year since 1998. We stay musically active and put out new product every so often. We have stayed in the game and are keeping the dream alive.
Do you feel that the Internet has played a major role and kind of sparked the whole 80's heyday once again and has helped the band sell CD's?
Guitar Hero II, the internet, having our music in new movies, TV and the classic radio stations have all helped.
Do you feel that there is any Warrant CD more underrated than others?
Everybody has different taste; I like them all for different reasons. The first 3 CD's are what Warrant is all about in my mind.

Warrant...back in the day |
|
It felt so good to hear all of the classic Warrant hits at the last Warrant concert I attended. As a performer, do you ever get tired of playing the hits like "Cherry Pie" or is every show different in its own way?
It would get boring playing them at home. Playing live and watching the bras fly never gets boring!
As a guitarist, how do you feel that you have evolved as a guitarist? I really liked the bluesy rock direction on your last album "Born Again"?
The longer you doing something the better you get hopefully. The reunion has me fired up again and I'm practicing a lot more now.
Any plans to go into the studio to record new material?
In the fall, if all goes as planned we will record a new CD for a 2009 release.
Are you looking forward to performing at Rocklahoma?
Absolutely! It's a great event to be a apart of!
Warrant will also be going on tour with Cinderella and Lynch Mob this summer. Tell us what the fans can expect to see on the upcoming summer tour?
A kick ass rock and roll circus flashback! Plan on having a great time and hopefully you'll remember most of the evening! |

As a guitarist, who are some of your influences? Were you ever influenced by George Lynch?
I grew up on 70's rock, Page, Young, Perry those guys got me started... nothing against George!
What are your thoughts on the passing of Kevin Dubrow? It still seems so surreal. The 80's lost a great legend?
I have only seen Kevin sober and thought he was completely clean, blew my mind and very sad!
Erik, is there anything else that you would like to say to the fans about the upcoming tour and reunion?
You're invited, put your party shoes on!
