Saviours of Rock Correspondent Deb Rao Remembers Kevin Dubrow.
I was deeply saddened hear the news today that my friend Kevin Dubrow, lead singer of Quiet Riot has passed. I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to his family and members of Quiet Riot and my dear friends Frankie, Alex, and Chuck. My heart goes out to them at this very sad moment. The world has lost a great legend.
I last saw Kevin perform on my Birthday on September 2nd at the Woodstock Fair in Ct. He gave an outstanding performance to the sold out crowd, and was one of the greatest performers on the planet. Kevin had a heart of gold, and was a true friend. Words can not describe what I am feeling right now. Kevin had a larger than life personality. His vocal style was reminiscent of his idol Rod Stewart. Kevin was so proud of Quiet Riot's latest album, "Rehab". He embellished life with much enthusiam. Never resting on his past laurels. I was so happy to see the tremendous crowd response from Quiet Riot's performance at the Woodstock Fair. I called his cell phone today to hear his voice one last time.
Quiet Riot had a huge following in the New England area. In the past, I have seen Quiet Riot perform many times at Hampton Beach Casino, Foxwoods Theatre, and most recently the Woodstock Fair on September 2nd. I was actually introduced to Kevin, through Quiet Riot guitarist Alex Grossi, when Kevin performed at the Lucky Dog Music Hall. Kevin told me many times that Alex reminded him of a young Randy Rhoads. It was so inspiring to see the front man so happy at the Woodstock Fair.
As I have said many times in interviews, the 80's were a time that was ever so magical and knew no boundaries. Kevin had a larger than life personality, that shined through his every perfomance. Kevin's voice had a bluesy vocal style that when you heard one line, you knew it was him. Kevin, you are in our hearts and in our prayers. We will miss you very much. The 80's genre has surely lost a true legend.
I would like to take a moment to remember Kevin, in our very last interview at Foxwoods B.B.Kings discussing "Rehab". Also, is a review of Quiet Riot on September 2, 2007 at Woodstock Fair in Woodstock, CT. .
Thank you,
