Chester Moore & Reggie Salas

Drachen
A NEW DRAGON IS UNLEASHED IN TEXAS

Drachen is a modern, aggressive power metal band hailing from the southeastern corner of Texas. "The goal of this band is to create music with as much integrity, intensity and passion as possible and to glorify the author of all Creation in the process," says Drachen founder/bassist Chester Moore – we caught up with him and Reggie Salas (guitar) to see what else they had to say._______________________________________________________________________________________________________

September 2006

HOW ARE YOU GUYS AND WHATS IN THE WORKS FOR YOU AT THE MOMENT?
We’re great. Right now, we are planning a video shoot for our song “Conviction” which will take place Sept. 17. We have also been writing a little for our next audio project, which will be a full length CD

YOU GUYS HAVE’NT BEEN AROUND FOR LONG, WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES, PERSONAL AND AS A BAND?
Musically speaking the metal that we mix to forge Drachen is Iced Earth, Helloween, Manowar, Iron Maiden, Stryper and Dio along with some Nightwish. We call ourselves “Modern, aggressive power metal” and are heavily influenced by a lot of bands that are mainstream in Europe but underground in the US unfortunately.

Coming out of the cave

YOU GUYS ARE PRETTY HEAVY, WITH SOME HEAVY THEMES.
Yeah, our music is a mixture of aggression and melody that’s based on traditional metal. We’re not trying to hybridize funk, ska, punk, hip hop and all of that kind of thing into a metal format. This is “real steel” if you will and we’re proud to carry that banner. Lyrically we deal with a lot of life and death, hereafter and epic type things, a lot of the struggles we go through as humans and also the fantasy realm.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST GET TOGETHER? HOW DID THAT END UP HAPPENING?
I came up with the name and concept late last year and wanted to do something during the down time from my other band FREAK13. I simply called up some friends I know were musicians and started recording. Our vocalist Matt I met by chance and it has turned out great. He is an awesome singer.

NEW E.P ORIGIN OF THE SPECIES IS SOUNDING GOOD, HOW WAS THAT? AND WHAT’S NEXT?
First, thank you very much.  We had a great time doing it and it came fairly easy. We had a vision for where we wanted to go to introduce people to Drachen and w’ere really excited about the next CD. Next up is a video, writing for a new CD and taking Drachen live in late 06/early 07

SO YOU’RE TEXAS BOYS?
We’re all Texans and proud!

HAVE YOU HAD MUCH SUCCESS IN THE U.S, I GUESS ITS EARLY DAYS?
Well, so far our fanbase is from all over the world. I would say it is 50 percent US and a lot of Europe and Southeastern Asia. It’s awesome to communicate metal to people from all over.

ANY MEMORABLE GIGS?
Drachen has yet to go live. We kind of did things backwards but we begin rehearsals in November. This was initially a studio project but it has taken on an life of its own.

WHO ARE YOUR FAVORITE MUSICIANS

VOCALS-
Eric Adams/Tim Owens/Hansi Kursch/Ronnie James Dio/Michael Sweet/Matt Barlow/Midnight (sorry too many to decide) (Reggie: Hansi Kursch)

GUITAR –
Glenn Tipton (Reggie: Jon Schaffer)

BASS-
Joey Demaio (Reggie: Geddy Lee)

DRUMS-
Bobby Jarzombek (Reggie: Bobby Jarzombek)

ARE THERE ANY NEW BANDS OUT THERE YOU GUYS LIKE AT THE MOMENT?
Hmm, Matt is really into Demon Hunter and I’ve heard some stuff. They’re pretty cool. I like some fairly new bands like Dream Evil and Shinedown are good for that kind of music. I dig a lot of stuff that came out in the underground in the 90s like Iced Earth and the Murderdolls. Dragonforce is quite good too!

IF YOU WERE A SUPER HERO OR CARTOON CHARACTER, WHO WOULD IT BE?
The Hulk. It fits my personality. LOL

YOUR DREAM CAR?
A black hummer, one of the old school ones, not the new smaller version.

WHO DO YOU THINK IS THE HOTTEST NEWS READER ON TELEVISION?
This is a weird question. Hmm, let me think. Paula Zahn is still hot for an older chick.

AND FINALLY, ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD
We appreciate all of the support we have had so far. It has been truly inspirational to us. We just want everyone

Thanks guys, and good luck!
