OVERVIEW
Bon Jovi always liked to throw in a bit of country in to the mix, so it was no surprise when they earned a cross over hit with the country version of Who Says You Can't Go Home. So…they decided to do a whole album in Nashville style. I wasn’t surprised.
SONGS
Lost Highway sets the style of the album , and is one of the best. Nice to see Sambora get a little lead work in their too! Summertime keeps the spirit going, and this is when you realise how good the production is! Make A Memory has already been released, and at first it seems kind of annoying, but it grows on you. We Got It Goin’ On starts with a nasty groove that’s up there with KISS’ Domino, but Jon takes it too the typical place you would expect, not bad. Any Other Day is a typical Jovi single, and I’m sure it will be, and do well it will too. Great catchy number, Sambora gets in a little again too. Although Jon gives his typical vocal delivery, the music on Seat Next To You is second to none. The slide guitar is bliss and the atmosphere created is entrancing. Everybody’s Broken will probably be another single, much the same as before. Very country is We Ain't Strangers Anymore, especially the duet with LeAnn Rimes, good song. One Step Closer is a great country styles gem, and it ends with the typical Love This Town.
CONCLUSION
It’s hard to judge this album. The production is great, the songs are great and it’s a nice little bundle. But…this may be a country album, but it’s still the same old Jovi. I just can’t help but get bored. I’ve heard every lyrical style and vocal melody that Jon is capable of…because it’s all about the same. The bands key sales ingredient is also their worst; Jon. While the instrumentation on this album is no less than spectacular, and possibly their best produced, Jon is really just the same old. I always loved him as a singer, he’s one of rocks best, but who hasn’t heard him a billion times? Fans will love it.
