OVERVIEW
Danger Danger have had an up and down career. Never making the big time in the 80’s, then losing frontman Ted Poley, forcing the shelving of their best album; Cockroach. Although Poley IS the Danger Danger man, and I think he’s great, Laine does do a bang up job, and brings his own style to the table. After a great job with 4 The Hard Way, the same line-up came back in 2000 with this gem.
SONGS
Grind is fierce and raunchy, starting things off nicely indeed. When She’s Good is a great sing-a-long rocker, a lot like their early days (because it was originally from Cockroach), and it’s an album highlight. Six Million Dollar Man begins with the intro from the show, though its decent, it never really gets there. Sensational and moody ballad She’s Gone is a layered and heartfelt showcasing Laine’s song writing and vocals. Dead Drunk & Wasted is another catchy pop/rock gem, doesn’t get any better than this in Danger Danger. The edgy Dead Dog takes the album to darker places, and does so well, nice riffs. I Do is another great ballad/rocker, very Bon Jovi, but very good. The solo is especially rocking. My Secret is another decent ballad, sounds almost like Soul Asylum. The boys get back to old school with the pop/rock of Cherry Cherry, not so great at first, but gets stuck in your head! Get In The Ring is a raunchy rocker ala L.A Guns or something similar, not bad. Things finish off greatly with Walk It Like Ya Talk It.
CONCLUSION
What a great album. Laine really brings a more mature sound to the table and it’s definitely reminiscing of Bon Jovi. Not a weak song in the bunch and a couple of killer standouts as well. Unfortunately this was their final album with Laine. After talking with Ted Poley myself, I think it would have been a better move for them to start a new band fresh, as this is fairly different from the original sound. Hopefully Ted and the boys can get a new album out with the original re-united line-up. As it stands this is sensational Danger Danger.
