OVERVIEW
This is just the 3rd album from AOR veterans Dante Fox, and the first in 9 years. The line up has changed, and so has the sound. But is it all for the better?
SONGS
The Last Goodbye kicks out with hard guitars and melodies, showing what these guys have planned. It shows the modern influence of bands like Evanescence, but with great melodic hooks, harmonies and some nice guitar licks for good measure, this is a real winner. While Firing Guns doesn’t quite have the kick of the opener, it does have another great melodic rock chorus. Hold Out Your Hand is a popier style number, and it has some nice moments, but its not killer. Breakin’ Me Down does a much better job in the slow song department. But Goodbye To Yesterday is better still, and sounds very reminiscent of Heart. Nice chorus. Walkin’The Line is a little more upbeat, this one could’ve come straight from an 80’s Lita Ford album, another good one. The anthemic Love Tried To Find You is more of the same, and its just as great. The 80’s movie soundtrack just continues with Save Me, and while the formula is starting to show, the charm hasn’t worn off. They reach a little deeper with Lucky Ones, but the quintessential harmony chorus makes it way back, still another winner though. The title track reaches deeper again and closes the album on a thoughtful and powerful voice. An epic masterpiece of a track, really showcasing what this band is capable of.
CONCLUSION
They seem to have found their niche and formula and stuck to it a lot through this album. Nobody ever told these guys the 80’s finished, that is certain, especially with all the anthemic and heart-felt chorus’. However despite all the short comings, this is a truly great album. It’s good to hear something, somewhat inspirational. Great instrumental ability and great singing from Sue. Although it may sound dated to many, the ones that enjoy this, will cling to it like gold. Hopefully it won’t take another 9 years for a 4th album.
