OVERVIEW
Apparently accidentally found when remastering the older albums, Don Dokken decided to put this live show to disc and show the fans how Dokken did it in the old days. This actually precedes their record deal and showcases some of their older songs that never made it to wax.
SONGS
The sound is lacking a little bottom heaviness (just like all early Dokken albums), but Paris is Burning is all there and its sounding pretty good, the drums are especially good, though Dons voice is a little weak. The first new (well...old actually) is Goin’ Down is pretty decent, with some great guitar work, and some decent vocals too! In The Middle is slow and moody, sounds great. Young Girls gets things rocking well, its actually hard to believe these tapes are so old by now. The next new track is Hit and Run, I guess it’s a pretty standard Dokken tune, the background vocals a very low, but it could’ve made a great song on the debut. Nightrider is a kickarse rocker with a sensational solo and Don works the crowd and his vocals, great stuff. Then we get neck deep into a Lynch guitar solo, the sound in very thin, and you can see they had trouble brining it out of the mix, but you can already see Lynch starting to show off his sensational chops. Live To Rock is great, and even better is of coarse Breaking The Chains. The album finishes off with the last unreleased track; You’re A Liar, its an up-tempo rocker with some frenzied fret work from Lynch, not bad at all.
CONCLUSION
Although they already have several other live albums, that no doubt have a better mix and sound, this kind of album is priceless to the hard-core Dokken fans. Certainly not necessary, but a good trip through the old days with a rawer and hard rocking Dokken.
