OVERVIEW
This album was some kind of marketing mix up and promotion once Paul joined Danger Danger. I don’t know the full story, other than Zinatra recorded several of these songs years ago, when he sold them, which are presented as his early demos here. Some dubbed it was unnecessary and others comment why this album was released. I don’t care. This album kicks arse which ever way you at it.
SONGS
Shake It Down is a nasty rocker that has tinges of Whitesnake, and although it is great, it pales in comparison to sensational title track. Riding On The Wind is a beautifully written and executed ballad. While One More Night is a little more generic, it still holds up with Paul’s great vocals.
(This is where the album presumably changes to his older demos)Two Sides Of Love sounds as if it comes from ’83; and it probably does. Decent song, but production doesn’t hold up to the rest. Likewise Love IS What You Give is all over the place and Only the Lonely is great. The rest of the songs are all decent, but pale in comparison to the first half of the album, with the exception of warm closer Momma I’m Sorry.
CONCLUSION
5 or 6 sensational songs, and 5 not-so sensational ones. It has such a great beginning that you think it ,ight be a 5 star album. Once the older demos kick in however, the album backslides, and the songs show their age. Either way, for Paul Laine fans, this is essential...if you can find it!
