OVERVIEW

Alice Cooper had disappointed a few fans in the 80's with his lacklustre releases, so he knuckled down in the studio and forked out the dollars to make a big rock album for the era. Magic man Desmond Child took it on as his own baby and really turned Alice into a comeback star overnight. This has guest appearances by anyone who was living in New York at the time. Tyler, Perry, Bon Jovi, Sambora, Winger, Lukather and Kramer, to name just a few. Its not a traditional Cooper album, but it rocks in every way the 80's did.

SONGS

It kicks off with the albums best song, and one of his best ever; Poison. With its Police like intro riff, pulsing verse's and anthemic chorus, this was as good as Alice could get in the 80's. The video clip was huge and thanks to it, so was the album. But it is far from the only good track here. It follows with the great hooks and big chorus of Spark In The Dark, which typifies most of the songs on this album, and then onto the even better; House Of Fire. Why Trust You continues the great formula, followed by the overdone sappy ballad Only My Heart Talking. But things don't stay there for long as he launches into Bed Of Nails, which really gets things cooking. The album starts to go a little downhill from here. This Maniac takes Alice back to his roots a little and Hell Is Living Without You fairs a lot better in the ballad department. Unfortunately Bon Jovi and Alice fail to make anything of the title track.

CONCLUSION

This is a really strong album and should be a great listen for any rock fan. The Desmond Child formula starts to wear after a while and doesn't give you much variety. Its all pop/rock hooks and big chorus's here, but with Alice' sense of sleaze. Next to that, the album is nearly faultless. Not quite a classic, but a great listen.
