OVERVIEW
After coming out with an independent punk/metal debut, the Crue came together and released a smashing sophomore effort that held the angst of the original but steam rolled forward in maturity and musicianship. One of the most classic albums of the 80's, this spawned a multitude of followers and wannabe's which would eventually cause the destruction of the genre early in the next decade. Virtually no filler and no boring parts, this is simple driving sleazy hard rock at its best.
SONGS
After the stirring intro sets the mood, Tommy & Mick come roaring in with their trademark Shout At The Devil intro. With great pounding riffs and anthem chorus, it seems things cant get better than this, but they do. Looks That Kill slides straight off the bat, dripping with sleaze and mood. This was a killer single from the album. Things speed up with the great Bastard, before slowing down for their instrumental track that leads into the bass heavy cover of the Beatles - Helter Skelter. Red Hot brings the pace back up and shows this album just never stops the rock. Too Young Too Fall In Love is arguably the best track here, with pop hooks and massive chorus, you gotta love it. Knock Em Dead is cool and tough and another sensational rocker. The album finishes up with Ten Seconds To Love and one of there most underrated tracks Danger.
CONCLUSION
Obviously I love this album. It's full of simple driving riffs that are all the same, but somehow you just can't get enough of it. Probably the best tone Mick ever got on record and probably the best ALBUM they ever got onto record. This is one of the best albums of the 80's and one of the best hard rock albums ever. It can be cheesy and sleazy, but its o' so rocking.
