OVERVIEW
First major release from Christian 80’s rockers Guardian shows more mainstream influence than their other band label mates like Stryper. This makes them a whole lot more accessible. The combination of Skid Row like hooks and pounding rhythms make it another underrated effort from these guys.
SONGS
Things come pounding out with Power Of Love, great stomping chorus, great stomping song. Send A Message keeps the rock coming with another stomping drum track, great stuff. Time Stands Still heads into power ballad territory and manages to fair pretty well with its call-and-answer pre-chorus and harmonized chorus. Some nice lead licks complete the package. A darker ballad creeps in with Forever And A Day. Its much better than Time, and is very reminiscent of Warrant. Takin’ On The World is a blazing boogie, with some nice licks and hooks. Great chorus too. Oddly enough the title trackisn’t one of the strongest, and it shows its age. The mean rocker Turnaround does much better, though the chorus isn’t the best. Time And Time Again is a dramatic 80’s power ballad. With it’s awesome vocals and guitar licks, this is yet another winner. The catchy intro riff to Rain takes a different approach. Raspy vocals and bluesy atmosphere show there’s more than one side to this band. A little like Winger, only better. They close things up with the anthemic acoustic ballad Never Say Goodbye.
CONCLUSION
I wish someone had have told me about these guys earlier. Another one of the most underrated bands of the 80’s. Twice the quality and more hooks than most of other bands of the genre, it’s a mystery to me. At times sounding a lot like Tesla, but probably a lot more accessible. Perhaps their Christian image turned out to be a curse for the band. Either way this one rocks. Every song is great and the sound and production is top notch. Get it if you’re a fan of Tesla, Warrant or Cinderella.
