OVERVIEW

KISS really set into their 80’s style with this one. As with others of the era, Stanley came up with some quality cuts and Simmons came up with little but recycled garbage. Mark St. John lends his blazing finger work on this one, and from there on, there’s no turning back from the 80’s. Eric Carr puts in another strong performance as usual.

SONGS

The album starts out in fiery strong form with I’ve Had Enough. This underrated track showcases St. James’ skills and Stanley’s knack for great, but heavy melodies. This is KISS at their hardest and fastest. Second is the biggest from the album, and still a live staple today. Heavens On Fires was actually written during the 70’s, and does seem a little out of place here. The next makes it three tracks in a row with the word fire in the title? Burn Bitch Burn is another embarrassing Simmons 80’s number. Get All You Can Take isn’t too bad, and Lonely Is The Hunter lets Gene regain some decent ground. Under The Gun is above average and Thrills In The Night is a real highlight. Again Stanley comes through again with another melodic 80’s rock anthem. The album closes up with the fair While The City Sleeps and the sleazy Murder In High heels

CONCLUSION

This album actually has a few really strong cuts, but overall it just doesn’t cut the mustard. Listening to KISS’ 80’s stuff is frustrating at best fro long-time fans. They show such strength in their new style, but fail to deliver what they do best; great album cuts set for the stage. KISS fans will want to grab it, and anyone who likes the era’s style will love the standout tracks. KISS: Best of the 80’s? That would be something.
