OVERVIEW
Immediately following up the classic Destroyer and Rock & Roll Over, KISS put in another strong effort with Love Gun, overall it falls a little short of its Destroyer predecessor, but still manages to dish out some of the best rock of the 70’s, and that’s saying a lot. Unfortunately the production really took a little punch out of the songs, which probably just makes it a little weaker than Destroyer.
SONGS
Things get rip-roaring in strong fashion with the rocking I Stole Your Love that is just a remake of the David Coverdale fronted, Deep Purple’s – Burn. But it still kicks arse. Christine Sixteen is great but shows its age today. Ace Frehley's career peak ushers in Shock Me; with his characteristic voice and licks, you got to love it. Tomorrow And Tonight is a more melodic affair before launching into the blazing title track, where Stanley absolutely wails. It still sends shivers down my spine when he screams over the chorus. The moody Hooligan is next and Almost Human keeps the ball rolling in strong fashion. Plaster Caster finishes off the album in cheeky form, before the ignorable gimmick Then She Kissed Me.
CONCLUSION
These guys had great rock pouring from their pours around this era. Constantly sighted as being an image made band, it annoys me to know that their actual music is so underrated. Two of the best ever hard rock albums were released in a one two punch, and they still struggle for respect. This is a great listen, and if the production had of been a little more fitting, it would have been just as good as Destroyer. Rock On.
