OVERVIEW

This release is so very, very frustrating for a big L.A Guns fan like myself. On one hand it is awesome to have a new live album from the great new line-up, but on the other hand it is so disappointing to see the set list. Why O why is it made up of mainly early material, especially from the first album, nearly 20 years ago. The guys are pushing the new stuff, and then come out with an album of stuff we’ve already heard live several times.

SONGS

No Mercy is dished out a mean pace, sounding average, but Blades’ guitar attack is a highlight. Surprisingly though, all these years later Sex Action is sounding fresher than it ever has, with a strong fat mix. Never Enough is as good as ever. The brilliant Over The Edge is a highlight. At least we get something different with Rock N Roll Outlaw, which suits them perfectly. Stacey Blades lends his voice to the punky Nothin Better To Do. Hellraisers Ball from Waking The Dead is more than welcome, and shows how much fresher the new songs are. They go back to the start as a thumping bass line brings in One More Reason, which actually sounds wicked, with some added metal-guitar licks. Then they launch into Electric Gypsy for the umpteenth time, and it sounds as it always has. They finish up with the obligatory Rip & Tear and Ballad Of Jane. But thankfully they go out on Waking The Dead' Don’t Look At Me That Way.

CONCLUSION

This is by no means a bad live album, its actually pretty good. I still can’t believe there are no songs from Tales. Also absent is the sensational Revolution from Waking The Dead. What you’re left with is all the songs they’ve played a billion times over the years, providing nothing new for fans at all. It’s a real shame for a band that seems to be moving forward so much, to be re-treading older material, that’s inferior to there newer stuff. Stacey Blades adds all that is worthwhile to this release, and Phil is singing like it was 20 years ago. The last live DVD Hellraisers Ball is much better, but if you want to hear some classic L.A Guns live, (without the classic line-up?) it does sound great.
