OVERVIEW

Poison hadn’t been seen together for a long time, so it was a great treat when C.C was announced to be back in the band. Although it took a while for the news to get any attention (still in the 90’s) they still managed to release an album which was at least half-full of original cuts.

SONGS

Power To The People roars out of the speakers and represents little of what Poison once was. It is a great rocker that gets your head banging to the chorus and is well welcome. Things change mood with the mid-paced upbeat bopper Can’t Bring Me Down, which sounds great and fresh. They get back to what Bret is best at with the ballad The Last Song, with its country influenced sounds and great vocals, it show Michaels has still got it, typically good. Even better though is the underated up-beat and acoustically driven Strange. Great story-like lyrics and feel-good sounds. A great chorus rounds it out to make a real Poison winner. But just to take things in another direction, C.C DeVille steps up to the Poison microphone for the first time. Although its actually a pretty decent song, I don’t think it belongs anywhere on a Poison album, it sounds more like Good Charlotte or something similar, which is actually impressive on C.C.’s part, as this was way before their time. The rest of the album is filled up with live recordings from the reunion tour. Although it’s all of high quality, most of it pales in comparison to anything on Swallow This Live, save Something To Believe In which lends itself to a great rendition with nice piano work and vocal (the Swallow This Live version had a keyboard!).

CONCLUSION

Although what is here is pretty solid, its still a let down for Poison fans. None of the songs come close to their classics, and all of the live ones have been heard before. It did seem promising at a quality full release in the future, which was misleading as Hollyweird turned out to be an utter disappointment. Still the last good thing they’ve done though and fans will still want it.
