OVERVIEW
Skid Row’s hey-day is long behind them, but the remaining members never seem to let it get them down. After shedding lead-singer extraordinaire Seb Bach, the guys have powered on with new frontman Johnny Solinger. Particularly on this release, they have leaned towards a more punk-orientated sound.
SONGS
Things actually start out fairly strong with opener Disease. It has a classic Skid Row groove, and gets better after the first verse. Another Dick In The System isn’t too bad either, nothing special though. Pulling My Teeth Out From Under Me fairs a little better. Things go into some kind of Boston-styled punk rock with When God Can’t Wait, which although it’s pretty uplifting and hardy, it misses the mark by a mile. More abrasive titles follow with Shut Up Baby I Love You. Its starts off nicely, with an almost G’N’R groove, but it takes a nosedive once Johnny comes in. Strength strives to be better, and does so, easily the best track here (and it’s a cover song!). We get back to the punky angst with White Trash and the rest of the album is much the same. You Lie is some kind of crazy hillbilly rant; I don’t know what direction these are going in at all. Nothing is probably the second best song, not bad at all, but sounds more like modern day teen-punk. Love Is Dead is all the same, as is Let It Ride. They finish up with Lie…again?
CONCLUSION
Damn, these guys are all over the shop. There’s almost nothing left of the original Skid Row sound. I actually hope Seb doesn’t do a reunion with these guys, because I truly believe he’s better off solo. What a rubbish effort for an experienced band. They could’ve started a new band with a new sound, but elected to drag the Skid Row name down in the mud.
