OVERVIEW
Soul Asylum havn't been seen in a while (1999) and this is a welcome comeback from the one time alternative chart toppers. The production and playing is as high quality as ever, this should be very pleasing for old time fans.
SONGS
The lead off single Stand Up And Be Strong takes the guys straight back to familiar territory, and its up there with their best past efforts. Lately’s dark lyrics are hidden under an upbeat and catchy melodey. Great stuff. Crazy Mixed Up World is similar accoustic fair, good stuff though, another highlight. The switch styles a little with All Is Well into an uptempo feel-good rocker, an they’re better for it. Bus Named Desire is even more melodic, almost resembling Enuff Z Nuff. Ballad Watcha Need is more of the same acoustic rock. Standing Water has a great chorus, nice one. The album contiues on with basically the same affair. It finishes up with the mean rocker Slowly Rsining and even a secret accoustic and vocal track.
CONCLUSION
It’s a pretty good outing for Soul Asylum, doing what they do best. It’s much the same affair as most of their most popular stuff. Great to listen to, but can became repetitive. They do have a great sound and a singer to go with it. Smart lyrics and good production finish off this all rounder.
